Reading, learning and the skills that follow from them. Most of this work sits inside MedWHOLE Academy.
The need
Schools in these communities are overcrowded and short of trained teachers. A child can go through a whole term without the attention they need, and many fall behind in reading. Summer School fills that gap during the holidays. A smaller number of children are not in school at all, and the Back-to-School Scholarship exists for them.
It reaches past childhood. When we ran our first skills cohort for young adults in Kunyami, the thing that most shaped how we had to teach was the literacy level of the participants.
Our approach
We teach free, in the community, and in the holidays when school is out. We measure reading rather than only counting attendance, and we return the same programme to the same community year after year.

Twenty-one children, five years
Good News Club began in 2021 at Christ Word Centre in Gosa with twenty-one children. At its fifth anniversary in February 2026, three hundred and five children and teenagers were present, with nineteen teachers and volunteers. Mrs Faith Adurojaire, Pastor of the church where it started, led the closing prayer.
